The Zoo Run By Inmates
The Monroe County Detention Facility in Key West, Fla., is not a typical jail. At Monroe, inmates help run a zoo. The facility has 150 animals, like goats, sheep, sloths and kinkajous. Caring for the animals helps inmates with their rehabilitation and can also reduce their sentences.

The Project to Photograph Every Plant in the World
The New York Botanical Garden and other institutions have taken on a massive project — to accumulate online descriptions and illustrations of every known plant species. The World Flora Online project gathers plants, mounts them on paper and photographs them in order to understand what measures need to be taken to protect them.
